Most people fail in life only because they fail to ask the right question at the right time.
For those who are hesitant to ask the right question there is a Youtube video where Steve Jobs explains how he got things only when he started asking for them.
In the video he explains how he landed in a job in Hewlett-Packard while asking for a spare part for a frequency counter he wanted to make.
"I want to build a frequency counter, and I was wondering if you had any spare parts I could have ... Bill not only gave me the parts I needed, he gave me a job that summer in Hewlett-Packard working on the assembly line putting nuts and bolts together on frequency counters. He got me a job in the place that built them. And I was in heaven." he had said in the video.
Steve Jobs went on to admit that he had at times did not have the courage to ask people what he wanted.
"There have been many instances in my life where I've struggled to muster the courage to ask for something I wanted, fearing that my request would be refused, or that I would embarrass myself for even asking. Yet, in many of those instances, because I asked, the outcome turned out to be very positive," he said.
He had many things that he had in his life was because he had the courage to ask for it. He said his wife, the promotions in his jobs were a result of having the courage to ask it at the right time.
He had said that some of his biggest failures and disappointments was because of not speaking up and asking for what he wanted.
The most important aspect of his speech is that he says that he reciprocated the kindness what he got from people.
"I've never found anyone who said no or hung up the phone when I called," says Steve. "I just asked. And when people ask me, I try to be responsive to pay that debt of gratitude back," he said.
This does not mean that you can right away start asking question, first reach a position where you feel that you deserve something you want, work hard for it and ask for it.
Staying afraid of things will surely lead to failure while asking for it will give you more chances of succeeding.
