Why should HR do away with outdated policies?

It is well known that the employees of any organisation share a love-hate relationship with the HR department. On the other hand, the human resource personnel themselves face several issues, one of which is to please both the management and the employee category. But a few compromises here and there, can go a long way in improving the inter-company relationship between the various wings. The HR on its part, too, should put an end to several of its outdated policies, which are a constant source of worry for the workers. Here are a few of these: First and foremost is the need to do away with the rule that asks a sick employee to produce a copy of the doctor's prescription when he or she returns the following day. Which world are we in! It is not necessary for every person to rush to the doctor even for a simple cold or a flu. He or she might decide that the best way to recover is to stay at home and rest. It entirely depends on the individual to decide if medication is necessary. An organisation has no business to interfere in this, and ask for the doctor's slip as 'proof'. Equally worse is the policy that asks the worker to produce a funeral notice, if a member of his or her family passes away. This can be considered as a barbaric rule, for it questions the very integrity of the individual. Next, do not prevent your employees from sharing their salary details. While the organisation might deem it fit to maintain confidentiality in payment-related issues, it will only lead to unwarranted resentment among the employees, if they were to know of the same later. Revealing one's compensation details ought to be left to the decision of the individual.
