How to bring about D & I ( Diversity & Inclusion)

How many of us have heard of 'D & I'? This, translated to diversity and inclusion, although an oft-repeated term in industry circles, is rarely used in actual practice in companies. This is primarily because at the end of each month, only performance and related numbers matter.

So here we present to you, a list of few ways by which this very D & I can be easily incorporated into one's life.

The first way is to look for imbalances in the sources of information. In this digital world, there is hardly anyone who does not have a presence on social media. While this is beneficial in more ways than one, there are also several discrepancies involved. For instance, in mediums like Twitter and Facebook, one might end up following similar kind of personalities. This will only lead to redundancy of information, and will not help to attain diversity.

The next is to 'fix imbalances in sources'. Although it might come across as a huge task on hand, in reality, this is pretty much an easy exercise. 

All you need to do is to ensure you are updated with all the new information that comes your way. As a report in Forbes magazine says, “Put a calendar reminder at that time, telling you to make sure you have followed someone new with the aim of increasing balance”.

Another way to support diversity is to ensure you are exposed to various kinds of viewpoints. Hanging out or debating with people with the same opinion as yours, is not going to be beneficial.

Be on the constant look out for those who can offer a different angle to your school of thought. Only a culmination of ideas will bring about a healthy competition at the workplace.

 

What is equally important is, one should practise these suggestions on an everyday basis, which will augur well for the organisation as a whole.
