How to overcome mistakes?

Mistakes are inevitable in human life, some times we keep pondering on why we did that one particular mistake.

However, in reality, some of the mistakes are not as bad as they seem to be.

A few techniques can be helpful to look past the mistakes.

An article in success.com says how members of the Young Entrepreneur Council deal with the mistakes.

The first thing to analyse after a mistake is to assess why the mistake was committed in the first place. The emotional and mental state that led to the decision should be found out.

'In some cases, I realise that I made the decision out of fear. If that’s the case, I dive into what generated that fear and build a mental model around the emotion. I take the time to reflect on it with the hope that I’ll recognize that emotion in the future and prevent it from affecting my day,' says Andrew Thomas of Skybell Doorbell.

The time after making a mistake can be used to regroup and rethink.

'The time away gives me an opportunity to let go of my initial emotion and start thinking about what I can do differently next time to achieve different results,' says Amber Anderson, MORE.

Matthew Paulson of MarketBeat.com says that not letting emotion get in the way is the key. 'Problems are often much bigger in our minds than they are in reality. Instead of wallowing on the mistake you’ve made, focus on what you can do to correct the issue,' he suggests.

Sometimes it is advisable to just move on after the mistake and focus on the other things.

More often than not there are also something positive that comes out of a mistake. Try to seek that positive from it. It may not be easy to undo what is done, but one can ensure that it does not happen.

'Don’t repeat the same mistake twice; make sure to not only learn from your mistakes but implement processes and have discussions with your team to ensure they don’t happen again. Also, don’t dwell on it; we all make mistakes,' says Anshey Bhatia, Verbal+Visual.
