The first thing to do is avoid using using filler words. We have got so much used to starting our sentences with fillers that we hardly notice it as a mistake. The most commonly used filler are 'um' and 'uh' which will make people consider you a bad speaker. This problem can be rectified by training, as consciously avoiding them in the beginning will make you fluent.
 
The inflections in our voice say just as much as the words that are shaped by them. Stressing on the correct word while talking is very important. Making your speech blunt will make the listener disinterested and will not convey what you wanted to say.
 
Another major mistake that most people tend to do is talking fast. People speak at a fast pace when they are nervous or excited, missing out the important pauses required for the audience to grasp the essence of the speech.
 
It is always recommended to talk slowly, also giving you enough time to think of the correct choice of words. This will also give you more control over your speech and make you look more confident.
