Even for someone who has a long reputation of being called as a chatter box, it would be difficult to start and hold a conversation in a complete group of strangers for a first time. 
 
If you are early for a meeting and there are few people in the room, it would be almost like having a forced conversation. While most tend to keep their mouth closed, these tips can help you overcome the hurdle.
 
The best way to start a conversation is by asking questions. But you have to careful on the type of question that is put forth. Make sure the answer does not end with a yes or no. Asking question will take the pressure off you and will also make the other person start talking. 
 
While most people feel that they have to make long conversations, it is not absolutely necessary. All you need to do is start a conversation and let it travel its path and go with its course.
 
Make sure that you talk about something to which the people can respond. Do not make the listener feel left out or out of the league as they may not open up. Talking about topics which you both share will make you both feel more comfortable. 
 
Though rehearsing is important and essential in long speeches, it is not really not needed in small talks. All you have to do is to go with the flow instead of sticking to one topic.
