Scientists from a number of universities in Spain analyzed the response of 541 subjects to a variety of social dilemma to arrive at the result of how trustworthy people are.
An article in inc.com says that the study of human behavior is not rare, but this experiment stands out as they developed an algorithm to help classify the individuals in to specific groups.
One popular model used in the game theory was the prisoner's dilemma which divides the people into two gang members put in solitary confinement and giving them three options and letting them choose from it.
The article said that the pairs were changed at frequent intervals which led them to organise 90 per cent of the subjects into four categories using the algorithm.
The four categories were Optimistic, Pessimistic, Trusting and Envious.
The first three categories got 20 per cent each whereas the last category was made up of 30 percent of the participants. The remaining 10 per cent were put in a 'undefined' group.
The end result of the experiment seems to indicate that most people you meet are selfish and out for themselves.
