Motivate self to regain mojo

Everyone goes through a bad phase in life, at one point or the other. Depression is not always something that happens, when a tragic event occurs. It is that period of life then one’s drive to work or succeed, reaches an all-time low. 

There can be several reasons for this, such as having a routine that is monotonous, an unrewarding job, or a career that is headed nowhere.

While this kind of depression is inevitable, what needs to be done is conquering it, and emerging with a positive frame of mind. Here are a few ways which can help in this regard.

Firstly, one who is lacking motivation needs to understand that it is all in the mind. And the interest towards life, or the lack of it stems from the mental note one makes to self. Hence, what needs to be done is try not to give importance to unpleasant feelings like pain, inconvenience or frustration and replace them with positive thoughts or actions.

This, according to experts, will give the mind a welcome diversion from the travails it is currently experiencing.

Training the mind to see the sunny side in everything, is the key to come out of depression, say many. Next is to stop the worry that is plaguing one. This is a criminal waste of mind and energy.

While it is easier said than done, one must take a conscious effort to keep such thoughts out of the mind. One needs to go by the popular saying that says, “When you stop worrying and complaining about what you can’t control, you have more time to change the things you can control”.  Do not go about imagining the worst that could happen, instead focus on what is the best that life has to offer you.

This precisely is what needs to be implemented. Another crucial aspect is the need to be surrounded with the right company. It cannot get worse than the situation when an already unhappy individual is constantly de-motivated by pessimistic people all around.  Therefore what needs to be done, have a happy bunch of associates around, those who make a positive impact in life.

While it is cent percent true that good things come to those who wait, it is also equally true that success comes to those who work towards their targets, and not while away time, ‘waiting’.

The key is motivating oneself with a small inspirational message to self each morning. Have short deadlines for each task, and work towards it. Once it is done, fix the next task and its deadline. Productivity increases when we get a sense of accomplishment for each work done, rather than piling up work and struggling to complete it in the specified time interval.

Moving on, it is imperative for people to ‘not stop trying’.  Failure should not bog down one, instead it should act as a stepping stone to success. Also, only when the struggle is high, will the fruits of labour be sweeter.

A failed attempt should not make one hesitant to take the next step. It should only strengthen the belief that the final destination is not too far away.

While one might argue that some of these might not be practical in reality, here is a counter argument. There are several examples of famous personalities who have risen against the odds and succeeded in life.

Some of them are Hellen Keller who was deaf and blind, Mozart who started composing music when he was five years, Anne Frank who chronicled her experiences when she was 14, in trying conditions, Magnus Carlsen, who became a Grandmaster in chess at the age of 13, Shirley Temple and many more.
