Life lessons from a flower

Some of the greatest pleasures in life are for free, goes a popular saying. So what are some of these little activities that are underrated, but go on to create a significant impact in life? Watching raindrops racing on a window pane, playing with a toddler, going through old photo albums and a subsequent trip down the memory lane, and the like.

In this fast-paced day and age, where one does not stop by to savour moments in life, it is getting increasingly difficult to appreciate minor acts in life. So why is doing this important?

This is what motivational writer Lorie Ann Jermoune feels- “The simple things in life impact self-perception”.

Surprised? In her article for ezinearticles.com, Lorie goes on to explain the significance of this concept with the help of a flower. She says that each one of us should take time off from the stress of everyday life, to observe flowers and take in the pleasant smell they emanate.

Why does she asks us to this? “Making time to notice flowers is like taking the time to notice people and the beauty and power that we recognise in ourselves and in everyone else as well”, and that, “just like flowers, everyone is different, unique and a part of the environment”.

Apart from this, there are several other life lessons we ought to learn from the humble flower. One of which is the significance of presenting ourselves.

A simple analogy is drawn for this.

Every flower, irrespective of its variety, can be easily identified as whether it is from a well-nourished environment or a place where it is hardly taken care of.

A flower that belongs to a plant that is well-watered, and is in a well-lit condition, is always blooming, spreading happiness and joy to those who appreciate its beauty.

On the other hand, a flower, whose parent plant is left to rot, without water and sunlight, is seen to be drooping and lifeless.

This is exactly, reflective of human behaviour, says Lorie.

“We may sometimes, appear weak or easily upset, though we are resilient and attractive when we smile; are well rested; properly nourished; and in an environment that is conducive to our soul’s mission, while living in a healthy environment”.

As mentioned earlier, we are the human versions of flowers. As a result, it is we who should decide how do we put up ourselves to the outside world?

Each of our actions will send out a different message on the exterior, so it all the more all the more important to choose the flower variety we want to be, and showcase it to the world.

As Lorie puts it, “You decide if you ar a beautiful red rose, romantic and expensive to maintain, a yellow rose, friendly, captivating and engaging, or an amazing daffodil, eager to please and learn from mentors or other flowers, the tulip that sings to its own tune, the sunflower, although a loner, very competent and willing to grow with every lesson; excelling amid excessive amounts of heat or competition”.

At the end of the day, the trick to leading an enriching life is to learn a lesson or two from our bud beauties, and take the day head on. Before that, decide which flower you are going to emulate for the next 24 hours, whether a sunflower, or a rose, or a tulip, or a daffodil. Once this is decided, you will have a clear cut idea of how to represent the self.
