Some entrepreneurs fear that outside help will compromise their culture or slow down the pace of their business, but that shouldn’t keep you from hiring the help you need.
You can bring in talent while maintaining momentum — and even accelerating growth.
Here are a few tips for putting outside talent on the inside track of the learning curve.
* During the initial stages make sure the new talent has a grasp of your business challenges, as well as the skills they’ll need to use in addressing those problems.
Work closely with them the first week to scope and refine the project given your company’s current business needs and processes.
* Identify people who are interested in your work, market and work culture. This connected perspective helps them adapt quickly to the entrepreneurial pace and environment.
* Regularly interact with the new guy which will make him feel as an integral part of the team. As you do that, you’re showing your organisation that you value the help. And that sends a strong message throughout your enterprise.
Be sure to set clear milestones and schedule regular check-ins to make sure important aspects of the job aren’t getting lost in translation and also encourage others to do the same.
* Talent hired for a limited duration can make a big impact during their time on-site, but it’s wasted time and money if you don’t make it last. So be thoughtful about how to adopt and maintain the project findings or new processes gained thanks to their involvement. Make time to transition and train.
