People’s feelings toward their job end up having impacts outside the office.
A study by Gallup found that unhappy workers cost the US between
$450-to-550 billion in lost productivity.
In addition, unhappy workers can develop health issues. These
complications can include loss of sleep, unhealthy weight gain,
lowered immune system and ruined relationships.
Companies today have a great incentive to keep their employees happy.
Creating an environment and leadership that satisfies workers is
beneficial to management as much as it is to the individual employee.
The HR department, aside from hiring and training, plays a direct role
in the overall happiness of employees.
Happiness is a hard thing to measure. How can you tell if someone is
truly happy without asking them? EBI asked 2,000 people to find out
how they felt about their jobs.
More than half of the people (53.3 per cent) surveyed loved their job
and only a tenth of people surveyed actually dislike their job.
It is also found that younger workers (age 18-24) are more likely to
feel negative about their job and older workers (35 plus) are more
likely to feel more positive about their jobs.
When it comes to the gender based rating, men between ages of 35-44
and women between the age of 55-64 say they love their job,
However, older men from 55-64 and younger women between 18-24 say they
hate their jobs the most.
