The role of a mid-level manager in a company is to make sure that he translates the strategies of the boss in to action.

However, in many organisations, senior level leaders often complain that middle level leaders don't do their job as expected. On the other hand, mid-level leaders say that they don't receive enough guidance from their superiors.

The first thing to do as a mid-level manager is knowing what the company's goal and strategy is.  When things are not clear it is their duty to approach the superior to clarify them on the issue instead of being idle and waiting for them to make the move. 

Once the organisation's goal is understood and the strategy formulated, it is important to communicate this plan to different groups in a way that they understand and work according to it. By proper communication you may be even able to inspire a few employees. 

Communication should not be unidirectional and the feedback of the team should also be asked for. This will make your team feel that you value them and you are with your team at all times. This two way dialogue will also help you to learn something from them.
